What Customers Are Saying
Customers overwhelmingly praise this straw mulch for exceptional grass seed protection and accelerated growth, with many reporting lawns growing "ahead of schedule" and seedlings thriving. Reviewers consistently highlight its ease of spreading compared to traditional bales, noting the shredded fibers and tacky texture prevent wind displacement and allow even coverage. The product effectively retains soil moisture and works well in gardens and raised beds. Most find it highly efficient and worth the investment. A few mention occasional weed contamination or quality inconsistency, though these concerns remain minor compared to widespread satisfaction with performance and convenience.

Would RecommendThe problem with regular hay bales is that there is a huge amount of weed seeds in them, so the weeds sprout and out grow and choke out the grass. Totally outweighs the usefulness of what it is intended to do with regards to sowing new grass. This straw mulch is more expensive but is excellent. No weird weed seeds to compete with the grass seed. It also is very easy to spread and has a bit of a tack to it so it stays in place. I highly recommend it over regular straw bales for protecting gr...

Works great!
Would RecommendI like that there are no seeds in it! Easy to use, covers well. I'd recommend wearing a dust mask when broadcasting or spreading it.

Full of Crab Grass
Would Not RecommendI normally don't knock a product for a slight, but this straw somehow has crab grass all through out it! I purchased to reseed some patch spots in my fescue and all of a sudden I have hundreds of crab grass all over the patches. No where else!! Only where the straw was placed to hold the seed.
Fertilizer would not spread
Would Not RecommendI bought 2 of these weed and feed fertilizers since they were on sale. I tried to use one bag since rain was forecast. I have a Scott’s speedy green spreader. Spreader is working properly. The fertilizer had kind of moist brown residue in it. This caused the fertilizer to not properly go through my spreader. Needless to say I took the other bag back. I showed them a picture of the residue in the spreader that clogged things up. I received a refund for the second bag but they were not interested ...

We use it on the bare areas we are seeding and also in our vegetable garden. Have used it in the past very easy to work with and easier/cleaner than large bales.

Not worth it. Too expensive.
Would Not RecommendI will not recommend it to a friend. a) it is not worth the price and b) it has a lots of small bugs in it. So, I had to treat the stuff and cover it up with mulch. If you are going to treat it anyways, I will suggest getting it from a local farmer. Much cheaper for a larger quantity.

When instincts tell you go and buy a bale of straw and instead you go with convince. This bale was wrapped and mostly was moisture free. As I got towards the end of the bale I did not open, the straw was damp and not molded. Biggest complaint in pulling straw out of the pre wrapped bale it came out in clumps...handful size. In grabbing out with both hands just larger sized clumps. A bale of straw with actual baking wire, the straw is removed in much larger pieces. I was using this straw to cover...
