I just painted two coats on my interior brick fireplace and it looks great. Is a top coat of regular paint really necessary?


Hi Jeff, even though the primer coat may look great, we do recommend applying a top coat. Our Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer is designed to provide the maximum adhesion for a top coat, so it does not cure to the same hardness as a top coat, and will not hold up as well if left exposed. Any oil or water-based paint top coat may be applied, and a single coat will be all that is needed in most cases. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2
