What is type l,lA, ll etc when dealing with ladders?


ANSI (American National Standards Institute) prescribes rules that govern the safe construction, design, testing and care of ladders. A type I ladder is rated at a 250 pound maximum weight capacity. The type II ladders are rated at a 225 pound maximum weight capacity. A type III is rated at 200 pounds maximum. A type IA is rated at 300 pounds maximum. And the type IAA is rated at 375 pounds maximum.

The ladder types correspond to the duty or maximum load rating in pounds. A Type III ladder is rated at 220 lbs,, Tyoe II at 225, Type I at 250lbs, Type IA is 300lbs., and Type IB is 350lbs.
