How thin is it at the bottom?


1.5" diameter at top, .75" diameter at bottom.

The legs are very thick and sturdy and I don't think you'll be disappointed with the overall size. I'd guess they are at least 1.5" in diameter the whole length. The bolt at the top sticks out very little--not even a half inch, if I remember correctly. I took the whole thing out since I drilled into the side, and it came out VERY easily. Seems like the total length was not more than 1 inch. You could, of course, replace it with a longer bolt if your piece will get lots of wear and tear.
