how do you hook up to a 2 wire switch


This particular switch timer requires a hot supply, a switch leg, a neutral, and a ground. Any modern switch configuration will at least have these wires in the box. It sounds as if either your wiring is very old, or your wiring is not to code. From what you described, you will not be able to install this unit in this case.
