The Supervent chimney is tested and safety certified for use with fires up to 1000°F continuously. It is tested at much higher temperatures, however the stove pipe & chimney should be inspected & cleaned regularly so it does not run at higher temperatures. "A hot wood fire" isn't very specific so it is tough to give a specific answer. We test at the temperatures that are part of the Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. test standard UL103 Type HT.
