are these blocks non-combustible concrete? Will they explode when heated without the metal insert?

Good Lord! What would you be burning so hot that would make concrete explode? Rocket fuel? NO, these bricks will not explode if you're burning wood.

Have had this firepit hor about 5 years. Purchased it.. put it right on the ground, put wood In it started it up. No problems, no explosion. Clean it once in a while. Not rocket science...

If the metal insert rots out like it seems it will you can purchase a bag or two of fire clay that is used to lay fire bricks and coat the inside with a heavy layer of it. Make sur eit dries about a week plus before using it the build small fires 4-6 of them to help cure it completely.

You must protect the blocks with gravel or lava rock up to the base of the fire ring.

Line the inside of the pit with lava rock or sand up to the bottom of the fire ring. This will protect the rocks themselves from any direct heat. They shouldn't explode when exposed to flame, but will fall apart given time. Protect them and either purchase a deeper steel ring or line the inside of the pit with sand or rock.

NO, they will not explode. However, when hot, i would not put a hose to the bricks, they may crack.

The blocks are made with concrete and the kit comes with everything needed to use the fire pit. They will not explode.
