what should I use to finish a kiln dried oak bar top. This is the focal point of our kitchen and will be used as a bar.

The Minwax lacquer picture shown is an excellent choice. It is easy to apply and provides great protection. You can apply it either with a brush, or a sprayer, which is how I apply it. Just apply a coat and wait for it to dry. It dries in about an hour, so you can apply a few coats in a day. Because it dries so fast, contaminates do not settle in the lacquer. All you have to do is sand lightly between coats with 150 grit or higher. If the finish becomes damaged all you have to do is apply a coat on top of the bad area. The new coat will liquefy and meld with the lacquer below. If you do your finish as I described it will come out flawless. I recommend at least 4 coats, more would be better since it will be a high use/abuse area. In case you're wondering, I have a custom cabinet and furniture shop, and I have been doing finishing work for over 25 years.
