is it possible to trim the top of the tree to keep it at a maximum height of 6ft?


You can but not recommended. The result will be a 6 foot tall evergreen--as well as a very wide evergreen. There are other evergreens that grow shorter. For instance, the 'Blue Juniper'( I think that's the name)grows to 15 foot tall and 4-6 foot wide.
