Are ceiling fans supposed to smell like burning oil when they run for the first few times?

Though extremely rare, we do occasionally receive consumer complaints about a “metallic” smell coming from a brand new Hunter fan when it is first operated. Please run the fan on high in both directions, (clockwise and counter-clockwise) for about 12 hours each and the smell should be completely gone by then.
