As a general rule, a ceiling fan operates completely independent of the light fixture. My answer therefore, would be yes. Just be VERY careful not to leave any bare wire ends exposed in the fan's connection area. The only thing you have to consider is how to cover the opening in the bottom of the fan where the light fixture would normally attach. Some fans have a gaping hole there and others I have seen only have a small threaded tube just large enough for the fixture wires to pass through. The fixture, then, would thread on to that tube. In that case it is no big deal. Just replace the threaded tube with a decorative "plug" of some sort. I would look in the lighting section at your favorite home store for something that would work. If your fan has the large opening, that may be more difficult to find a cover for. I would check the fan manufacturer's website to see if they offer one as an accessory. Again, your home store may have suggestions. In the past most fans did not come with a light fixture so they had a cover included. If you chose to add a light kit (purchased separately), you simply did not use the cover and attached the light in it's place. Not so anymore.
