These nails are for underlayment .. NOT SHINGLES 1 every 6" at edges and overlaps. An overlap is when you put the next layer upside down on the first layer, nail 4" from edge every 6" and unfold the top layer to create next row. so the overlap is actually a fold. The 1 every 24" in the centers
