The chuck will close all the way. I have not had a problem with any bits being too small, however there is a limit to how large they can be.

Was this Answer Helpful ?The chuck will clamp down on the smallest drill bit you want to chuck into it. Without a cutting tool chucked into the chuck, it tightens down to zero clearance so any small item you chuck into it, it sill securely fasten it.
