This cap contains nickel-cadmium rechargeable batteries and are considered longer-life batteries. When we are talking about subzero temperatures, the best batteries are lithium. There are lithium rechargeable batteries on the market. We suggest that you wait to see how the caps function this first winter, and if necessary, make the switch to lithium rechargeables if your goal is to have the caps illuminated year-round. Thank you.
