Tarnished copper and cloudy solar cells?

All copper tarnishes naturally, just like pennies and copper roofs. The patina is a desirable effect for some, but, like DC said, if you want to keep them from tarnishing, you will need to lacquer. Can't speak for the solar cells.

No, they aren't lacquered, or if they are, it doesn't last long! I polished mine up with Brasso, which worked great but I waited too long so a couple of the spots were too deep (I actually polished through the finish trying to get one out - will put that in the review, too). So, to keep these looking nice, you'll need to polish them often or put your own lacquer on them.
