The manual says not to turn the unit off while under a load but what if it runs out of gas during the night? I assume it would do damage?

While some sudden shut-offs are difficult prevent, we recommend getting in the habit of disconnecting the load before shutting off the generator as this will minimize the occurrences that can cause damage over time.
