What Customers Are Saying
The Valspar paint product has received mixed reviews. On the positive side, many customers reported great coverage, smooth application, and durable, long-lasting finish. The paint was also praised for withstanding harsh weather and maintaining vibrant color over time. However, a significant number of customers experienced issues with the paint bubbling, frothing, or leaving an uneven, streaky finish, even after multiple coats. Some found the paint too thick and difficult to work with, and there were complaints about premature fading or discoloration.

Purchased Valspar Ultra to paint the exterior side of several doors. It took 4 days to finish the first door. The paint never seemed to completely dry. Weather was mid 90's, humidity less than 25%. I used a foam roller for doors, the door was properly prepared. Lots of tiny bubbles that didn't dissipate. Sanded after first coat, then tried using a brush. It left a very streaky appearance. For the third coat I tried a regular 3/8 " nap roller with a little better results as far as the bubbles. I ...

Faded badly
Painted exterior of house with Valspar Ultra flat paint about a year ago. The light brown color that we used has faded badly in the sunny areas of the house. On the south east side of the house the paint faded from a light brown to a funny very light brown-pinkish color. I have outdoor furniture next to the house in one area. When you pull the furniture away from the house you can see a big difference in the color where the sun hits the house and where it has been shaded. Extreme fading in just ...

FADED MORE THAN EXPECTED
This paint covered well and was easy to use but am disappointed with how badly it faded after only 5 years. I just had a roof put on and some of the eves had been replaced so had to repaint these areas. The main color wasn't even close meaning I am going to have to paint the house again. The darker trim color did hold up. I picked this paint as it advertised features as long lasting, superior fade resistance, and lifetime warranty. It faded more than the 15 year old paint that it replaced in onl...

bubble bubble toil and trouble
bought a gallon of this with the built in primer in hunter green semi gloss for some shutters. Thoroughly scraped down any loose paint on the shutters and applied the first coat and it created a bubble effect on the remaining paint as it dried. Let it dry and the bubbles remained. Gave it the benefit of the doubt as sometimes humidity could cause a problem or if the surface was damp. Tried again after several clear dry days, scraped and sanded off the original coat, made sure it was dry, and tri...

I had the same bubble problem as the guy referenced on August 13, from Dayton, OH.
I stripped the previously painted metal exterior door. Then I sanded it down to the primer that came from the factory then I sprayed rustolium primer on the bright metal spots. I painted it with Valspar Ultra tinted dark Gray and got bubbles everywhere, pinhead sized covered the roller as I was loading paint to the roller (Whizz 6" white woven fabric 3/8 Nap) it also caused bubbles when cutting areas with a brush. I continued to roll until some bubbles flattened but they all left pock marks when...

My new go to paint !
I am so happy with Valspar ! I bought this to paint my old beat up wood front door. I had to patch and sand for two days just to get it ready for paint. The door was dark green and it is now Heirloom Red, with just 3 coats ! If you have ever painted anything red you will understand my joy....I love this paint, went on smooth and with no sanding in between coats. Thank you Valspar for making a superior product that didn't break my budget !

Bubbles Too
I have been a loyal Valspar user for years but I am also disappointed in the new Valspar Ultra paint and primer. When painting a new, primed, steel entry door the paint bubbled and frothed and streaked. A job that should have only taken about 20 minutes has taken me countless hours with all the bubbles, then stripping and sanding re-priming, and re-painting again and again. Still getting bubbles. I used to love Valspar paint but whatever changed with this new Ultra does not perform well and I wi...

Not my favorite
I have used Valspar flat wall paint for 15 years. I would not recommend paint + primer. The paint is thick, and it dried on my cut-in brush in about 1/2 hour. The brush was ruined - couldn't wash it out. I would rather apply two coats of standard paint. I don't know who's idea this was (at Valspar) but I think it's an attempt at a DIY market. I hope they still make the 'old' Valspar.

Fades quickly
Spent two weeks hand painting the exterior of my house with this paint. One year and one month later and the paint has faded inconsistently in many places and almost back to the old color of the house. The house is starting to look as bad as it did before I painted. Waste of time and money as now the house will need to be re-painted and with no time to do it will have to hire someone to paint. Very displeased with this product.

The best exterior paint I have ever used.
I have painted my house twice and my sister's once. This last painting I decided to try Valspar. Oh My God...why hadn't I used Valspar on the earlier two jobs. It went on smoothly, no clumping and dried to a beautiful color that matched exactly what the wife had chosen. I was happy and more importantly my wife was happy. As a result of my experience I have had 3 friends/co-workers that have asked their paint contractor to use Valspar. GREAT PRODUCT!
