Troy-Bilt Base Attachment

Workhorse!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This mower is tough a true workhorse. What use to take me 1hr to mow, has turned into 30min. I love it. I would highly recommend this mower and have already done so. Only issue..cleaning up of loose leaves is a challenge...they just get pushed around. Also, practice with the mower before you start to maneuver this bad boy. First attempt, I popped a wheelie;) After 3 uses, I can now finesse my way around my yard.

Monster mower..

Great mower, but a few issues

Bought this and within an hour smelled fresh oil. Turns out the gearbox has a seal on the bottom that had somehow popped out allowing all the oil in the gearbox to drain all over the mower belts & such. After 4+ weeks in a shop 1-1/2 hours away to replace the gearbox under warranty, started mowing again. However, after less than an hour same issue with the gearbox seal. I read reviews about people saying it was not a good mower. Have not had any issues with it so far. Makes mowing quick and easy.

Broad sweep for quicker job

With a wider footprint than the norm (and being on special) I decided to give the Troy-Bilt Flex system a try, to include the mower. I haven't been disappointed - the mower is aggressive and effectively mows thick grass. I have two gripes though preventing that fifth star and both are associated with the bagging system that is an optional(!) purchase with this attachment. First, the side-mounted chute is aggravating. Due to the design there's not much to be done and I knew what I was getting...

Not at all What I expected

Had a 7 year old lawn mower finally die. Also needed a power washer, so we looked at the FLEX system. Great idea, just not great implementation. The mower is difficult to maneuver in most "city" yards. Also leaves a streak of uncut grass where the 2 blades do not overlap completely. I complained to Troy_bilt and they actually gave me a new mowing deck (this is a known problem with the mower). The second deck did the same thing. Called and complained again to Troy-Bilt, but they wanted me ...

Bad factory welds

I was all in the Flex system. I bought all the attachments. However, this was a bad quality attachment. It did not last the whole summer. Instead of Troy-Bilt replacing the whole attachment, they send a new deck with was replaced by a dealer, which took a long time. The Lawn mower base is now not under warranty. If the welds happen again. I have to pay for bad factory welds. That's a $500 deck.

Starting yard system

I purchased the mower attachment and the power unit as a start for several jobs that I need to do on a regular basis. The mower works well on a 3/4 acre lot. It has plenty of power. The mower stripes well. I use the walk-behind to get my walking done. I also have a yard in town that is uneven, has large trees, and roots above ground. The agility is good considering the base size, but the deep ditches (as warned on the box) require care. It cut the time required to mow with a 21" push mower by 50...
