TAVY is the Way to Go
I would use this stuff everywhere except for shower floors and walls. I was pleasantly surprised with how well it works. Unfortunately it's not waterproof, so you need to find a different product for showers like Schluter or Red Guard. I prefer Red Guard myself for waterproof installations. TAVY goes on so thin it doesn't add any height as an underlayment. It also provides an inexpensive way to isolate tile from the movement of the subfloor which prevents tile cracking problems later on. Highly ...
tie your shoes bc it never dries
This product is not like the "Only other product sold by Lowes". That dries. This product just sits and acts as a lint trap for your entire home. Returning the 2 of 3 unopened gallon buckets and paying the extra $10 for the "Only other product Lowes sells". Tavy does not dry. Tie your boots and be sure not to have any exposed hairs on your body.
Tile over plywood
Glue is sticky, if only 1 person working the job, try cutting the Tavy Thin skin in smaller sections. Watched a few videos on the application, and spoke to the owner. I used a flat trowel to apply the glue, laid smaller sections of the thin skin, and smoothed with a drywall tape blade. Once down and set, I used the notched trowel, provided, to apply the skim coat. This gave a bit of texture for the thin set to bond with. If you are a first timer, watch the video on Ron Hazleton channel about Tav...
Great Product
This is very sticky glue. If you have worked with a trough before than you will have no problem. If you have never used a trough to lay cement, tile, or other, then you might find this difficult to use. There is a system to it. If you are using the roll of paper and the glue, it can easily roll up on you and become a mess. I would recommend 2 people.

Performed as advertised
Glue is supplied with plastic notched trowel for application. Some caution must be used in that glue is a bit messy to deal with; care must be taken to not get it on your hands because it is ultimately then transferred to any surface or clothing you touch making a sticky mess.

Excellent Product
Tavy underlayment is excellent for prepping concrete floor for laying ceramic/porcelain tile. Because of the low profile of product, you don't have to cover the entire floor but only the cracks. This saves a lot of time, labor and money. Other underlayment alternatives require covering entire floor which also raise floor height up by 3/8" - 5/8", which requires you to raise moldings, cut doors etc. Great product!

Get's you out of a bind
Used Tavy first when we had a asbestos tile floor with secure, but outdated tile. Company wanted $1,600 to remove. We decided to give Tavy a shot. We had amazing results, and saved over 2/3 in cost. Since, we've used it over linoleum, counter top, and a 3/4" varnished plywood bar wall with great results every time. It is messy, as the glue is very sticky, but wear rubber gloves and be patient. We had a question about mastic and went to Tavy's web site for advice. They have a email address to inq...

Tavy Thin Skin and Adhesive
The result of the project...i.e. being able to tile over my existing vinyl floor with a luan underlayment went great thanks to the Tavy Thin Skin along with Schluter Ditra. The process of appling the Tavy Glue to lay the Thin Skin Fiberglass paper was very, very difficult. The problem is that the adhesive is sooooo sticky that you literally get stuck to your trowell tool. Of course I used gloves and they would stick so well between towellin on the adhesive and then trying to release the tool to ...
