We recently decided to replace a driveway alert that seems to work part of the time and decided to give this Swann Driveway Alert a try. The first thing one wants to do after inserting the batteries is see what sound comes out of the device. By default it is set to Channel 1, which is a very LOUD siren sound. Channel 2 is also a loud siren sound. Turns out Channel 3 in the "chime" sound we expected. My advice if you are looking to set this up quickly is: 1) Reset device by pressing and hold...
Disappointed
I bought two sets of these from Amazon and one from Lowes that had only one motion sensor in it. I gave one to my son from Amazon. We programed 3 sensors to one receiver and for about two weeks everything worked fine. Then they started sporadically working. Then one stopped entirely. I had one on the driveway, one in the back yard and one on the front porch. I have called Swann three times asking questions. What they tell us doesn't work. Also they have all these chimes but the motion sensors co...
Pros and Cons
If you're trying to get an "alarm" anytime someone pulls onto your property it will work once you figure out the programming. So it definitely has its purpose and works fine. If that's the reason you want it then it's a 4 star rating. I'm using it as notification at a business whenever someone pulls in. We've used detectors like this in the past and it gave us a simple chime or chirp that didn't disrupt anything if other customers were in the store already and another pulled in. This one st...
Annoying but Love it
I read some of the reviews. Yes it is annoying because of the tones. But, I would rather deal with an annoying alarm than intruder. Yes it can pick up other movement, like small critters, cars driving by. If you live on a busy street you would not want to point your sensor toward the street. The alarm is loud. Play around with different sounds/tones until you find one you like. They are easy to set. The low setting isn’t much different from the high setting. When replacing the batteries , you m...
Finally Figured It Out!
Was very upset when I first put in batteries as it was so LOUD it really scared me! After going on-line and reading a review by someone saying it could be changed, I decided to try it. I actually went outside with the book & read how to reset it, it worked! I'm using channel 3 rather than 1 or 2 as it's more of a chime sound. Once this is done you can then set the loudness to the one you like best. I was all ready to take this thing back, but now it's working great. It Can Be Done!! I wou...
Its Ok but but not Great
The directions and box are deceiving. You only have 3 Different alarm tones on each channel and it is hard coded on each channel. The third channel is the most pleasant. 1 and 2 sound like an alarm that you don't want to wake up too. Says it will reach 60 Meters (190 Feet). At best I have have found 30 Meters and it works. Its Ok for short distance but of you want long range go with the Chamberlin. Its good for 1/4 mile and it works. I will keep this but use for my garage and distance will b...
check reviews next time!
Wow... I regret not reading reviews before purchasing. I wanted something to alert us about driveway motion, not give us hearing loss. I get it. It has to be loud enough to reach throughout the house, but anyone with a house large enough for THIS noise has enough money to actually purchase a REALLY expensive, decent setup. 3 volumes -deafening, just about deafening and tolerable...if 100 yards away in a padded room. There's also only one sound too- an annoying alarm. Really? Who wants an alarm s...
Didn't even last a year
Bought this as a cheap easy way to tell who was coming up my driveway. Unit was easy to set up and sync but the alert sounds are very limited and annoying. You have to be very picky about where to place the sensor to avoid false alerts. After several months I finally got it working just right. Here we are in month 10 and the unit died. Still has power but won't alert or light up. Wish I had done better research and found a better product that actually lasts a few years. Save yourself the $30 buc...
Pretty good alarm
This thing was easy to setup. And it works well but as with all infra-red detectors, it can be triggered by heat sources or hot air on a freezing cold night if warm air flows in front of it. Its also sensitive enough to detect smaller animals if the detector is placed low enough to the ground. I put mine on under the roof overhang so it wouldn't be triggered by my cat. Now it only goes off when a car or person walks in front of it.. All in all, it works well. And if you don't live in an are...
Annoying!!
Bought this to replace our old model. OMG could not be more annoying!! Comes with like 20 or more different melodies and ring tones, spent 2 days trying to figure out how to set the melody we wanted. After going on line to find help.....there is none for this model. The volume settings are barely noticeable, goes from Extreme Loud to Med loud to....Med loud!! There is no low! We were going to remedy with tape on the back speaker to muffle it but instead, after 2 days of messing with it, it goes ...
