The Early Wonder Camellia is a gorgeous new selection from the Southern Living Plant Collection. This variety produces stunning formal double blooms, lavender-pink in color. These flowers appear in Fall, earlier than other Camellia japonica varieties, hence the name Early Wonder. The foliage is consistently dark green and evergreen. Each leaf is leathery and glossy, with a light serration on the edge. At maturity, this camellia reaches 6 ft. to 8 ft. tall and 4 ft. to 6 ft. W. It's ideal for an accent, privacy planting or along a property line. The Early Wonder Camellia is hardy from USDA Zones 7-9. It needs 3-hours to 4-hours of direct sun or all-day filtered sun to thrive. Plant in slightly acidic, rich soil with good drainage for best results. Water your new plantings 2 to 3 times per week for the first growing season. Fertilize in spring with a slow-release acidic plant fertilizer. We recommend applying 3 in. to 4 in. of mulch around the base of the plant as well. These Camellias are well-rooted in their 2 Gal. pots and will range from 15 in. to 20 in. tall. They are not guaranteed to be in bloom on arrival.
