Why would they design it this way??

The main problem I have with these is the way they set up (or more accurately failed to set up) the securing system. Take a look at the pictures and you will see a row of nice neet screw holes. Well that isn't what you're looking at. The sheet metal doubles back under that so the head of the screw works by going through the over sized hole you see on top and pinching the edge of the sheet metal on the other side instead of just going through. Design could be improved.

Installed 240 feet. My gutters are subjected to leaves from many trees. The quality of the material is excellent however the design could use some improvement. Using the clearance hole for the mounting screw requires pre-drilling 1/8 hole in each. This leaves very little material between that hole and the edge of the under-turned material. Would and will buy again

Put these on the front of the house today and I have to say I was surprised by how thin they are. Arrived bent on the ends and I can see why. I would buy these again to finish the rest of the house as the holes in them are small enough to keep anything that comes off the trees around here out of the gutters. Rain runs over guard, not so smart screen

Really liked the idea of these guards when I watched the advertising videos online and read the description, but while these guards may prevent debris from entering the gutter, they defeat the gutter's purpose all together. I finished installing minutes before a rain came through, and watched with anticipation only to find that all of the rainwater flowed directly over the guard, dripping a foot away from the foundation. Easy install

Went up very easily. Took more time to move the ladder. I have a lot if maple trees and this system worked well when leaves were falling. Seems to have small enough drainage that the seedlings will not clogg the gutters.

Installed

I purchased washers for the screws. Found the screw by itself went through the guard. Installed much better with washers added. I also had to trim the width of a few guards with tin snips to fit. Also over lapped the guards about two inches. Works great leaves started to fall and went over the guards. I put these on both sides of my garage 14 foot each side. Got an estimate of $750 for the gutter guys for the shield. Functions the same way as these and cost with washers about $70 a huge savings...

This gutter guard when in stalled per instructions improves strength of your gutters to withstand a ladder leanning on then without flexing. Great price compared to other gutter guards. I pre-drilled the backside of the gutter guards because The scerws that came with it will cut through the gutters but self tapping sheet metal screws wpold be better. Smart Screen Gutter Guard

I'm 76 years old and installed the Smart Screen gutter Guards today. Easy to work with and easy to install. I had to do some trimming but that is due to the type of gutters we have on our home. One suggestion to make it easier to install would be self drilling screws in the event people have steel gutters like we do. Great product and will install them on the upper gutters since we have a tri-level house.

Measure Twice

I just started installing the Smart Screen 5" x 20' panels. My gutters are new and 5". The Smart Screen panels are actually about 5 1/4" or 5 1/2" wide. So be sure that your gutters are about 1/2" below your shingles or otherwise you won't have enough room to slide the back side of the gutter guard up under the bottom of the shingle.
