What Customers Are Saying
Customers are divided on this product. Many praise its ability to restore weathered decks to like-new appearance, hiding cracks and stains with a thick, slip-resistant finish. However, significant concerns emerge around coverage—reviewers consistently report needing two to three times the advertised amount. Application proves extremely difficult due to its mayonnaise-like consistency, requiring excessive effort to spread evenly. Most troubling, many customers report the coating peels, flakes, or fails within a year, with some describing moisture trapping and wood damage. Despite transforming deck appearance initially, durability issues leave many reconsidering the investment.

Three years ago I was advised to scrap my 19 year old deck because it was "beyond repair." Since I have rather extensive decking around my house I was not ready to go into the expense of a new deck. In my search for deck restoration I came upon Rust Oleum's Deck Restore and decided to give it a try. I put it on the most deteriorated section of my deck to try it out. When I applied it I was disappointed in the color I chose - it was redder than I had hoped - but over time I got used to it. My big...
Be aware before you start!
This stuff is excellent. Easy to apply, looks great, hard wearing. That said, you need to be on board with several things: 1. This is not cheap. $25 a gallon appears pretty reasonable but remember, THIS IS NOT PAINT. It is sand encased in a painty glue. Don't be thinking "two gallons and I'm good." Don't be using the can's estimates, either. You will use a lot if you want it to work. 2. Buy the applicator roller. It is not optional. You may need two if painting goes on for more than a couple day...
Great way to save your deck!
I just moved into a house with a 24 year old cedar deck in rough shape. After power washing and replacing some boards I was ready to make it look good for years to come. I've used stain on covered porches, but knew the horror stories of needing to restain exterior decks every 2-3 years and my old wood deck just wasn't up to that. I bought the restore and found it very easy to apply using a paint roller with extension handle and rolling pan. My deck floor is about 700 square feet and I used 16 ga...
Oh No, Rustoleum.......
I have been using rustoleum products for years, and always know them to be top-notch......Until now. If you are looking to use this on a patio, or sidewalk, keep looking. I painted my 300 square foot patio with a different product about 5 years ago, and it looked like it was time to freshen it up a little. Well, the other product was discontinued (I'm only assuming because of VOC compliance laws# So I found this. Great, I thought, its Rustoleum, how can you go wrong. I pressure washed the entire...
Peeled off in sheets by Wind
I have written this review on the 3 gallon product page as well. I had purchased this item last year and applied it to my very small patio deck. We had followed the instructions; power washing the deck, making sure it was clear of dirt and debris, ensuring the deck was dry before applying, and ensuring the weather would allow sufficient drying time. We also made sure to use the special roller that Rust-Oleum recommended. After it was applied and dried, it looked great. The color also brightened...
10X Deck Coating
After watching way to many commercials, I decided to try this on the front steps of our home. I bought one gallon, and on the recommendation of the salesman, bought the recommended roller. This was to cover 30 square feet of steps. The tinting was very good, though we picked the wrong color, it wasn't so far off that we couldn't use it. I pressure washed the steps (6 each 5ft by 1 foot). I tried using the roller, but the product would sling off the roller making a big mess, and did not cover eve...
STAY AWAY!!!!
This product promises a lot (10 years of wear, fill cracks, restore old wood, etc) and delivers NOTHING!!!! I had my deck redone with this product less than 3 months ago and spent well over $200 for the product and all the "special" rollers that they want you to use. I paid for professional painters to apply this and they did exactly as the product states it must be done. I am now looking at a deck that is covered in a flaking, brittle, ugly paint that is going to cost me well over $1000 to have...
Easy to use
I purchased this product to restore my concrete patio which was in pretty bad shape. I was hesitant to purchase after all the negative comments, but decided to go ahead and uses since I could not find anything else that I liked. Today, I put on my second coat and so far floor looks great. Restore 10X was easy to use and clean up was really easy. I spent about 2 hours applying each coat to cover a 10X12 floor. The only negative that I have is the amount estimated that you need to purchase is too ...
Does the job well, but covers much less surface
Very thick paint. Accomplished the task well. I used 2 times the paint I was expecting to use. You do end up with a bumpy surface as stated when using the recommended "sponge roller". It does fill holes when you take the effort to make sure the holes get extra paint. It takes a little extra attention, but no problem. Assuming the paint does not chip, fade, etc. this is an excellent product. I was able to send in $25 rebates per 5 gallon bucket which made the price VERY good. Must allow extra tim...

Restoring concrete
I ordered this with the sand stone color. I did my back yard in a beach theme and wanted to simulate sand on my concrete. Under the awning slab, I rolled it on with their recommended roller. It took a lot of paint. It splatters so you have to roll it very slow. I then took a paint brush on my other patio and brushed it on thick and some areas thin, made swirling motions. It looks just like wind blown sand. I love it. It's been about 3 weeks, with hot days, cool days, and stormy rainy days and it...
