What Customers Are Saying
Customers are divided on this pet door, with about half praising its draft-blocking and temperature control while nearly a third criticize its structural design. Many highlight the triple-flap system effectively keeps cold and hot air out, with reviewers in harsh climates noting impressive insulation. However, significant frustration centers on cheap plastic components, particularly the snap-on security panel that customers describe as flimsy and easily dislodged. The nylon bolts and plastic hardware are criticized for stripping under normal use. Most pets adapt quickly to the door, though some struggle with the magnetic flap force or lack of a defined threshold. Overall, reviewers remain divided between valuing the weather sealing and resenting the durability concerns.

Bought this because I was told to prioritize insulation since this is an outside door going to the garage. But this has been terrible to install. They give you plastic/nylon bolts that bend easy. Unless you have a perfect cut the bolt holes will not line up and fishing for the hole will bend the bolts. I had to get metal 8-32 bolts and a 4" drill bit. Made a few extra holes in the pet door to line it up. To add insult to a frustrating install it has a door cover with plastic tabs that a manbearp...

Extreme weather dog door
I originally stalled this dog door in 2016. We have three large dogs that fly through this thing all day long. I have replaced the flaps once, but finally after nine years, the plastic cracked and broke, and I needed to replace the whole door. Although the new door fits directly into the old door location, a design change in the new door has made it not quite as weatherproof as the original one. They have removed the additional weatherstripping that was on the sides of the flap and there was a ...

Love it
Just installed the aluminium extreme weather dog door. An exact replacement for my previous aluminium single flap door. I’ve used the single flap door for 10 years and only had to replace flaps due to puppy love for the flap! The new door flaps are working so well, I had to write this review. My dogs transitioned easily to the new flaps and my dog room is much warmer. I recommend the aluminium doors over the plastic ones for Canadian climate.

Meh
Great, until it got cold. The screws pulled through on the inside. The flap holder on the outside broke clean off a few hrs later. They really arent built for a home that has 3 dogs, who are worse than our kids, running in and out all day and night long. Only had for a year.

This door is great for my cats
I had a regular Pet Safe door for my cats for a lot of years but it eventually wore out and would get stuck open and that is not ok in Canadian winters. I decided to look at more weather-resistant options and chose this one despite some mixed reviews. It arrived within a couple of days and installation was very easy to figure out. It took the cats a few days to get used to the amount of force they needed to use to push through the two magnetic doors but they have figured it out and the larger ca...

Unsure of the new design
This is our second purchase of this pet door. Within a few months, PetSafe changed the way they make it and now the back part (the cover on the inside of the door) is no longer secure. Instead of sliding into block the dog door, the cover 'snaps' over the back and you can push it off from the outside. Not secure at all. And I'm not sure it will be that good at blocking the elements out, either.

Cat does not come in
We installed the flap 2 weeks ago and my car is still not comfortable with that. Unfortunately temperatures are already sounds 5 Celsius or below and we can't let the flap open to her. She sniffs it and backs up without even trying to come in. I'm afraid she will freeze outside and always end up helping her through the flap. Temperatures here can go down to -30C and I'm afraid for her. I think she is afraid of using it, either because of weight, or the noise or because she can't see through. A...

Gets the job done!
Bought this pet door about three years ago for our lake house. We love it. When we had the porch screened in we needed a way for our rescue pups to go in and out but also needed a way to block the entrance when we were not there. We think our son's pittbull tried to use the door. We're missing the screws on one side. On this site now to look for more screws and a new, clean looking, flap.

Old version better
I have purchased my second Extreme Weather door for a second exterior door. This new version leaves a lot to be wanted in comparison with the previous model. It looks and feels a lot cheaper for the interior cut out of the door. The plastic frame and flaps are the same but the gap filler for the thickness of the door is just flat plastic with no side or bottom seals. I also have the older version that has a yellow insulated flap but it also came with a plastic space filler for the bottom of th...
