Worked well out of the box
The sole of the plane was dead flat. There were no sharp edges on the body that I noticed. I disassembled it and wiped the shipping oil off all the parts. All the parts were in good shape and iron was also dead flat.I put it back together and got the iron parallel to the throat. There's a little wiggle room for the iron and cap, so it took me a minute to adjust it. I did not sharpen the blade. I tested it on a 1 x 2 piece of poplar. I slowly advanced the blade until I was getting shavings...
