20+ Years on original model, easy replacement with new unit

Our 'new' house had a Badger 5 disposal installed and I knew it was original with the house (20+ years old), so I put a water leak sensor in the cabinet. The sensor recently alarmed when the disposal finally rusted through and started leaking. I bought this as a replacement for my 11 year old Badger 1. A bit disappointed that the Badger 1 only lasted 11 years before leaking out of the bottom, so hoping that the Badger 5 lasts a bit longer. I really have no other disposal to compare my Badger 5 with so I have to say I am satisfied with its performance. I like that installation was easy. The step by step instructions with diagrams are so clear, I think anyone could install it if just replacing one to the existing neck piece under the sink. I feed my dog a raw frozen diet. I use paper plates to thaw the food on, then rinse it off and set it in the dishwasher to dry and store until I need it again for her next meal. Etc. Not once, but twice I forgot to take the paper plates out of the dishwasher and ran them through the wash cycle. Good Product

Although I've been using and installing my self many of these disposals in my home for 43 years this was the worst to get installed. Great product runs great and quiet. The problem is they changed the position of the lock ring. Now instead of lining up your plumbing and turning the lock ring. Now you have to clock the whole disposal and then a short turn for the lock ring. What a pain. Took a while to figure it out but for the unsuspecting it probably be a fail and a return. Fairly Easy Replacement for Burnt-out Unit

We bought an exact replacement for a burnt-out Badger 5, figuring that not having to install a new flange on our sink would make things simpler. Installation was a bit difficult for me; lying half under the sink on my bad back, supporting the unit with one hand while trying to get everything aligned proved to be a challenge and took much more time than it should have. Easy reinstallation after failure of Badger 5 XP

I'm hoping this unit lasts longer than the Badger 5 XP model it is replacing, which developed a crack in the plastic housing and began to leak after just four years of light use. good disposal. only one issue with installation

We installed the disposal unit about a month ago. It is working fine and we are happy with the product. My only complaint is with the installation. The plastic piece that gets punched out to connect the dishwasher drain line shattered when I knocked it out with a screw driver per the instructions. It was difficult to find and pull the small plastic pieces out of the disposal. We missed some of the small pieces and they clattered around in the disposal when we first turned it on.
