The garbage disposal is a reliable and affordable option for basic household use. It is described as powerful and efficient at grinding up food waste, though some find it to be a bit noisy. The disposal is praised for its durability, with many reporting their previous model lasting 10-20 years. However, some have experienced issues with the disposal cracking or leaking after a few years of use.

Our 'new' house had a Badger 5 disposal installed and I knew it was original with the house (20+ years old), so I put a water leak sensor in the cabinet. The sensor recently alarmed when the disposal finally rusted through and started leaking. Having some experience with Insinkerator brand, I knew the installation would be simple -- disconnect the plumbing, twist and drop the old unit, and then lift and twist the new unit into place, and then re-connect the plumbing. Very nice to not have to mes...

Easy Installation
I bought this as a replacement for my 11 year old Badger 1. A bit disappointed that the Badger 1 only lasted 11 years before leaking out of the bottom, so hoping that the Badger 5 lasts a bit longer. I selected this product because it seemed like it would simplify the installation. And it definitely did. I am not a very handy person, but the replacement was quite easy. The only trouble I had was once hung the new unit on the flange, it seemed like the discharge port was not going to line up w...

The Badger insinkerator is very handy
I really have no other disposal to compare my Badger 5 with so I have to say I am satisfied with its performance. I like that installation was easy. The step by step instructions with diagrams are so clear, I think anyone could install it if just replacing one to the existing neck piece under the sink. I went through 2 badgers in 17 yrs., I think because I did not know, initially, that I had options clearing clogs/obstructions, resetting using different methods. I thought once it stopped grindin...

I purchased this unit after my old unit stopped working. It is the same as the one I had before. Great disposal.
I feed my dog a raw frozen diet. I use paper plates to thaw the food on, then rinse it off and set it in the dishwasher to dry and store until I need it again for her next meal. Etc. Not once, but twice I forgot to take the paper plates out of the dishwasher and ran them through the wash cycle. The dishwasher has a very good drain and strain system but I’m afraid some of the paper plates made it through and locked up my garbage disposal. Don’t do what I did or you will be buying a new garbage di...

Good Product
Although I've been using and installing my self many of these disposals in my home for 43 years this was the worst to get installed. Great product runs great and quiet. The problem is they changed the position of the lock ring. Now instead of lining up your plumbing and turning the lock ring. Now you have to clock the whole disposal and then a short turn for the lock ring. What a pain. Took a while to figure it out but for the unsuspecting it probably be a fail and a return. They moved the lo...

Fairly Easy Replacement for Burnt-out Unit
We bought an exact replacement for a burnt-out Badger 5, figuring that not having to install a new flange on our sink would make things simpler. Installation was a bit difficult for me; lying half under the sink on my bad back, supporting the unit with one hand while trying to get everything aligned proved to be a challenge and took much more time than it should have. Better illustrations in the instructions, as well as a paint mark on the unit to match up to a paint mark on the flange would hav...

Easy reinstallation after failure of Badger 5 XP
I'm hoping this unit lasts longer than the Badger 5 XP model it is replacing, which developed a crack in the plastic housing and began to leak after just four years of light use. The Badger 5 is lighter, a little shorter and has a smaller motor but seems to drain the sink after pot-washing just as effectively as did the previous XP model. Despite its slightly smaller dimensions, it installed easily onto the existing mounting ring and the discharge tube fit directly into the waste piping without ...

good disposal. only one issue with installation
We installed the disposal unit about a month ago. It is working fine and we are happy with the product. My only complaint is with the installation. The plastic piece that gets punched out to connect the dishwasher drain line shattered when I knocked it out with a screw driver per the instructions. It was difficult to find and pull the small plastic pieces out of the disposal. We missed some of the small pieces and they clattered around in the disposal when we first turned it on. It took a couple...

This product was worth buying
I purchased this product to replace a 20+ year old model that no longer worked properly. I researched different units for the replacement and came across this model. I did further specific research about this model and concluded that it would be the perfect replacement for the old model. I removed and prepared the surfaces and area for the replacement endeavor. Afterwards, I sat down and thoroughly read (and reread) the installation instructions to ensure that I'd reinstall the unit correctl...
