IRWIN Hanson 2-Pack SAE Tap and Drill Set

Modified for my specific one time need

I needed a 12-24 "bottom tap", so I purchased this tap and then cut off the tapered end. It worked for my purpose on two female threaded holes. I can not speak to any issues of strength, sharpness, or tool longevity, with regard to its normal intended use.

I bought this just to solve a small problem. typically a large kit would be the go to, but I don't tap many sizes and the savings are worth it. recommended? of course..

Lives up to the Irwin/Hanson names

I bought this because I needed to up-size a stripped #10 hole in a brass door fixture. It was great to find a set with the odd drill size (non fractional) with the #12 tap. I ground the tip off to make it a bottoming tap for my blind hole and it worked excellently.

bit and tap 10-24

Tried this one time on aluminum. It cannot get any softer then aluminum, unless it was wood. The bit is oversized for aluminum, but that is not the worse. The worse is that the tap was so soft the cutting threads pealed off on the first try. I thought I was seeing things, cleaned the tap and sure enough . . the cutting threads were gone on the tip up to the full diameter. I have never returned a used product to any vendor, but I am seriously thinking of it on this item. I have a cheap China set ...
