I have never used such a fragile tapper. I broke 2. The first when following the directions on the packaging. The second when turning it 1/8 turn then back 1/2 turn to clear stray files and burs before progressing another 1/8th turn. On my third one I finally found success when turning it 1/8 turn then turning it all the way out before wiping debris and reapplying cutting oil.

Will do what you need it to do.

Solid tap

Sharp tap set. Worked on both brass and steel with out a problem

Fragile and weak

Used this on stainless steel. Can’t tap thread it at all without breaking it and the drill bits suck. Purchased 3 of them and put of the pack of 3 only one drill bit actually drilled

Taps that don’t tap.

Two taps broke almost immediately even with the proper-sized pre-drilling and plenty of oil. Cut 8 holes quickly with some slightly more expensive better grade taps I got on the Internet. I’ll never use Irwin taps or drill bits again.. they’re cheap but a waste of money and time.
