Finally wised up and stopped buying died bagged much. Call a tree cutter—they'll leave you a truckload for free! I had a gigantic, steaming heap of mulch that took a year to spread around a large lot. Started out with a shovel, but then realized, this is what you need!

Hefty Pitch Fork
This is a very heavy duty pitch fork. It's robust with a sturdy feel in your hands. I use it in my chicken coop and to turn our compost pile. The tines are thick and sharp, able to pierce the pile very easy without bending under pressure.
