Black and decker 40volt trimmer

I have owned the 40volt black and decker string trimmer since 2017 and it has performed flawlessly. I have a 1/2 acre corner lot with ditches on two sides that need to be trimmed at least once a week along with garden edges and 20+ trees. We have worked it hard and have only had t replace the string. I have purchased a few extra batteries because I also have a blower and a hedge trimmer in 40volt which have also worked well for several years.

Great for the average (height) person.

These would be great little trimmers if only....little is the problem If (like me) you are over 6' tall, the position you have to get into to get the angles right is really hard on your back. Any tall users figure out a good solution? I would buy a longer one, but I have a shelf full of B&D batteries. Also... I have not been able to get the line feed to work properly.. This is my second purchase of this tool.. Same problems with both of them.

Great value and plenty of power.

I purchased two of these for use at rental houses, for the tenants to use. They really like the weight and balance of the units, ease of use and battery life.

This is an excellent cordless string trimmer and offers a good-length run on a single battery charge. A good feature is that you can select more power if needed, with a slightly shorter battery run. This trimmer uses AF-100 string spools which are widely available and low-cost.

AUTO FEED PROBLEM

After a year the auto feed just lets line out constantly. The small plastic retaining pin on the spool housing broke and that's the problem. Just cheap construction.

Newer 140 sucks

I got a B&D LST140 several years ago, and replaced the housing once and the gears twice. Worked for 4 years until the motor burned out. A new motor was almost as much as a new unit, so we got a new unit. Got too much invested in the batteries to start changing equipment lines. The new version of the 140 has a stationary handle which means you need to be a specific height to use it without tiring your off-arm. Replaced an older B& D with this new model

This is a terrible trimmer compared to my old B&D.. I cant trim more than 30 ft without the cheap plastic handle slipping positions 3 or 4 times. I finally just left the handle in the top position that it finally stopped in and had forearm cramping within in 10 mins. Not a user friendly model at all. Also my old battery had no problem getting through my entire yard with plenty to spare. This new battery barely made it to the end of my yard. Hopefully I can return after 1 use but I have a...
