Did a test with Amdro fire ant granules from shaker container and also with the yard treatment in the 5lb bag. Fire ants began taking in the Amdro fire ant granules real quick and the yard bait sat on and around the mounds dozens of them for over 2 weeks - mounds stayed active - my test showed the yard bait was a waste to treat mounds directly - maybe if spread consistently on your property it may work. Ant granules for Ants problems.

I use this bag regularly every year for pesky ants. I put them in the spreader and go till it’s empty. It seems to work great. It doesn’t have to be fire ants. Any ants will die when you use this product.

Fire Ant Bait Bag

Too soon to call. The fire ants seem to move out of the treated area. My wife and I were getting bitten at least 1x / wk. We tried the ant killer but they just seemed to move a few feet away from the old nest. Knock on wood! No bites for a week. We have been doing a lot of landscaping and that seems to put them in the attack/kill mode. I need to watch what happens during the next month before I can really say if this product works well.

I honestly don't know if it's the same stuff as the plastic jugs of Amdro I used to use. I got this bag and put it on a couple of fire ant hills and all it did was feed them. I knocked open the anthill and it was full of it and all the ants still alive after several days. I took it back and they had the plastic jugs of Amdro. Hope it works unless they've cheapened the formula. Save your receipt if you do get it. I'm hoping it just went out of date or something.

Best product I have found for fire ants in Georgia

I like the bait treatment instead of the poison that has to be watered in. I guess I am lazy enough to like the one-step bait application instead of having to bring along a watering can or water hose to "water in" the other types of products to kill fire ants. The bait seems to be most like the products used by professional pest control companies. The bait seems to work pretty well but it still seems that sometimes it just makes the ants move to a new location.

For effective Imported Fire Ant control . . .

I've used Amdro to effectively control Imported Fire Ants since the 1980s in Texas and South Carolina. When broadcast at 1-2 pounds per acre when weather will be hot and dry for a few days, close to total control will be seen for 1 year or more (longer if you can get the neighbors to do the same). A great product!

And BAM they were gone

My Pest Control person recommended this product for the fire ants that were along my patio line. Due to Government restrictions he was not allowed to spray this area (environmental issues). I spread this around the fire ant area and BAM they were gone the next day. So easy to use, I used the whole bag as he suggested around the entire yard as the product does not "save well".

I have been using Amdro for years. It is great to kill off a bunch of ants. I haven’t found anything better yet. It worked for a lot of my mounds and significantly reduced the ant population.
