A.O. Smith Signature 900 80-Gallon Tall 10-year Warranty 120-volt Plug-in Smart Hybrid Grid Capable Heat Pump Water Heater with Leak Detection and Automatic Shut-off

The first water heater lasted only 4 years before developing a leak. It was replaced 100% free but took over four months to deliver it to the Lowes store I bought it at. The second heater lasted only 10 months before the heat pump failed. When I attempted to replace it I was told that this water heater has been discontinued and is no longer available. I apparently was lied to about that since here it is offered for sale on there website.

Piece of crap

Terrible doesn’t stay on hybrid mode have to keep on electric mode then it jumps into hybrid mode quits working ecc then you have to cut off breaker to reset. Everyday piece of crap go by a regular water heater for way less

AVOID!!! Garbage unit and garbage support

My compressor died within a year. I contacted AO Smith numerous times. They finally agreed to replace the unit. After the hassle of working that out they said they would cover the unit and replacement labor. Sent the invoice for the new install and they sent me a check for a microscopic fraction of what the install cost. They're response? oh well best we can do. DO NOT BUY ANY of their products. They will LIE on their support line and warranty services.

Replaced 2x in 2 years

The quality is terrible. 2 units failed in 2 years. 1 unit replaced at no cost. 2nd unit replaced, have to pay installation fees. the 10 year warranty is now down to 8 years and I still do not have a unit installed. Any further failures, installation fees are not covered. This is garbage do not buy. AOSmith support is not useful, offers no apologies, and reverts you to the place you bought it.

Need to Exchange but none in-stock

It's frustrating enough to have to replace a water heater for the second time in two years, but to then have to struggle to get a replacement is just terrible. The AO Smith representative said that the compressor has failed. Meanwhile, so may of these foreign companies equipment keeps on running. I really wished this product would have lived up to the hype.

App and instructions needs clarity

Product seems to be good but lack documentation. The app is horrible.

brand new unit leaking internally

brand new unit installed, hooked up and squirting water from inside black compressor (see video). Needed to pay out of pocket for replacement unit, manage delivery and take-away of bad unit, and pay plumber twice.

Cost vs value is worth it

110 plug and play made relocating my water heater a breeze. 66 gallon capacity makes for extra long showers too.

Well designed water heater

Very quiet even in heat pump mode. Very long electric cord and condensate drain line. Had it for 1 week and it is working well.
