Worse experience buying this unit after two months it wouldn’t heat properly, kept tripping breaker, and started leaking through front access panel. Called for replacement under 90 days had to get someone to haul away old and deliver new as AO would only offer $200 for assistance bought a different model of course as they weren’t even willing to cover having a new one installed couldn’t buy again and trust this unit with another $1200-$1800 installation charge coming never again trust me do not ...

Replacement has failed after a year

the first AO Smith hybrid failed after 18 months -- Was replaced under warranty --- Since the new replacement unit was installed we needed to change out the circult board after about 1 year --- Now 6 months after replacing the circult board -- the hot water heater runs continuosly in a basement that is approx 69 degrees yea.r round This product is not worth the trouble or the cost

It doesn't work in the winter.

This is a total scam. I bought a unit less than a week ago, and it's already malfunctioning and not heating because the heater needs to be in an environment above 40 degrees, And AO Smith customer service told me: "Sir, you have to buy an electric heater for the AO Smith heater to work." What?! This is a complete rip-off, and they won't refund my money.

ECC error code keeps coming up requring a reset. I went to the AO Smith website to find someone that will repair this under warranty, however since i'm out of the 1 year labor coverage, the closest residential repair service is 67 miles away and costs at minimum 250 dollars each visit and will require at least 2 visits with diagnosis and repair. I will say this is by far the worst water heater you could buy, followed by the worst warranty procedure and protocol. The water heater itself is easy to install, they all are, and they all have the same basic three connections. Cold Water In, Hot Water Out, and Electrical Connection.
