Pop out the bottom bar of a hanger. If necessary, cut it in half first.
For a total of 18 hooks, measure 1 inch from the ends of the hanger and mark the underside every inch. Use an awl to start the holes.
Drilling 1/16-inch pilot holes will help you install the cup hooks without damaging the wood. Drill 1/2-inch-deep holes at the marks, but hold the drill steady -- narrow drill bits break easily.
Carefully screw a cup hook in each hole. If the cup hook is hard to turn despite the pilot holes, rub the threads against a wax candle before driving the cup hooks.
