Disappointed in quality, soft wood, easily damaged

I bought this for a jewelry workbench top. Based on other reviews, I took care to select from the store a piece whose plastic wrap was still intact. However, the packaging does not permit one to inspect the entire surface for defects. When I unwrapped it, I found one side was clearly not intended as the "bottom" (unseen). The top side was better, but still had a lot of light colored (sap, soft) wood, lots of knots, a tear-out gouge, and a long mark where something had dragged across the surf...

Low quality

Despite my initial excitement, it turned out to be much more disappointing than I thought. It had a very rough unfinished touch, the adhesive that binds the wood together was also failing, there were too large cracks up the middle and it was unsalvageable. Ended up tossing it in the trash. I would recommend getting a higher quality product elsewhere and inspecting it in person before actually purchasing it. I waited 2 week's for this 5ft butcher block to get delivered to my house and when it got delivered I noticed the box was kinda dinged up and looked like a little part of the box was going to peel off. I recently ordered a butcher block countertop from Lowe’s, and let’s just say it arrived looking like ROUGH. Cracks, splits, and damage that even a generous coat of mineral oil couldn’t hide. I bought the 5 ft version of this butcher block, I waited a week and a half and a shipment delay for this butcher block to get delivered to my house and when it got to my house there was a dent in the box that it came in and a little bit of the box was starting to peel off, and when I opened the box there was a nice medium sized dent in the butcher block and the protective plastic on the butcher block was peeled off and when I unpackaged it I noticed there was cracks on both sides of the butcher...

You can surprise yourself.

Who would have thought.... turns out butcherblock is more versatile than I had guessed. My daughter wanted something with an "organic feel" to it for the vanity top for her bathroom redo. She agreed to a butcherblock top but then added a twist. She wanted it with a "live edge"! Turns out I made it work with the help of one of the workers on the project. ...and she liked it!

FedEx moment

If you purchase this item do not have it shipped through FedEx under any circumstances. Block arrived with multiple half in deep gashes in the wood, and the block was completely split in half. Appears as though it was dropped from a very high place, or the person who loaded the FedEx truck was smoking crack.

Butcher Block

Ordered 5’ Butcher Block since they don’t stock in stores packaged good but once I opened it I discovered a 4’ crack down the center

WARPED!! and GOUGED!

WARPED!! and GOUGED! Ugh. It was a mistake to buy this from Lowe’s. Even more of a mistake to allow them to pick out and hold the actual piece for pickup by my contractor. The warp is a manufacturer problem — not good for a countertop! — but the gouge was from poor handling by Lowe’s warehouse. My cabinets were mildly damaged too. No response from customer service when I reported the cabinets, so I didn’t even try with this problem. Expensive lesson.

Solid piece of Butcherblock

So, I will preface my comment by saying that I give this 5 stars because of the quality-to-cost ratio. If you get 8' butcherblock counters from a "countertop" company, it's costing you $1000. I was able to grab these on sale for $200. That being said, they are mostly good, but a couple comments: 1. Don't get them delivered. I had to send back 2 separate deliveries because those people are savages. Let them deliver 2x4's and deck boards, but not these. 2. If you get a pre-stained one, get a can ...
