What Customers Are Saying
Customers overwhelmingly praise this paint-stripping tool for its exceptional speed and effectiveness on challenging surfaces like exterior wood and multi-layered historic paint. Many highlight its precision in tight areas around glass and baseboards, and appreciate the lightweight, ergonomic design that reduces arm fatigue compared to sanders. However, several report that sanding discs wear out quickly and are expensive to replace, and some mention overheating issues or plastic components breaking under stress. Despite durability concerns, most customers find it indispensable for targeted paint removal tasks, describing it as a time-saving game-changer that outperforms traditional methods.

I have owned 2 of these units. I have successfully moved paint from my deck and parts of my railing. Works so much better than sanding. Sand paper will tear if you go over a screw and these pads for he unit just will not tear. My first unit stopped working, but I think in may be the switch. Regardless, I got a lot of use with it. Good investment for me.

Great product I didn’t know existed
Wagner Paint eater - a great product works well at stripping several coats of loose paint (fortunately Indo t have to do the entire 1300 sq ft deck) from bad spots on my deck. Fast, and the ergonomics are amazing compared to using a vibration sander. Delivery was fast and on time. Thank you Lowe’s!!

Gaaarrraaabbaaaggee "Fancy"
This weak so called paint eater: got eaten by the paint. Grinder became wobbly due to design flaws or design to make you spend more money. Company: stop the ideology of cheating blue collar work. Every blue collar worker knows this is gaaaarrrraaabbbaaagggeeee: just go back to fundamentals.

Powerful
The size is great for storage when not in use, the fold way handle gives you extra leverage when needed, but stays out of the way when you don’t. overall, does a great job of stripping paint and rust.

i did better with a hand scraper
i did better with a hand scraper lets start with the cons, well a hand scraper gave better results. the one included disc parely removed any paint ( loose and old) and merely scuffed the surface paint. you are locked into a propiarity disc which is threaded to the arbor so replacements are expensive unless you spend the bucks on a nut and wrench assuming you can find a suitable one. overall you likely will get better results with a power sander and 40 grit paper. no dust collection at all. price...

Good for difficult jobs
I got the PaintEATER because I wanted to refinish some old pine floors that had been covered with linoleum tile. The tile had been glued to the pine floors, and after removing the tile, attempting to sand the floors led to the sanding belts quickly gumming up with old glue. The design of the PaintEATER is superior to that of an angle grinder when working on a floor. With the PaintEATER, it took a few tries to learn how to use the tool effectively. Applying direct vertical pressure just moved the...

One speed no guard
It DOES NOT work on multiple coats of well adhered paint the disc clogged in less than 3 minutes of use. Also there is no type of guard for trim it just eats the edges away fast. Its ment for 1 coat at best other than that Pictures speak a thousand words...Pic attached

GREAT PRODUCT, FOR PAINT PROJECT EXTERIOR ONLY
Great device for stripping old paint and metal. this product was very beneficial in completing a exterior house paint project. my dislike about the painteater sander is their is only one kind of replacement pad you can buy and only one brand. unless you install a conversion kit. switching 7/8 to a 5/8 then you can use avanti pro pads

Worked Fine for My Job.
I purchased this to knock down edges of the possibly 5 layers of floor paint in the basement of my hundred-year-old home. Hard to tell, but the paint was probably not latex; maybe lead-based, but was fully dried and brittle. Having read some reviews, I was apprehensive but gave it a go and, honestly, I am satisfied with it. It did require some patience to get through the layers. It also did a solid job of knocking down the edges of the small-agg concrete that my water-proofing contractor got ...
