I've never used stain WITHOUT a wood conditioner so I can't say for sure how bad it would look. However, I have used this pre-stain on multiple different types of wood surfaces - stripped cabinets, sanded handrails, stairs that were previously carpeted, and a brand new butcher block countertop. Every time, the stain comes out uniform and even. This wood conditioner is very easy to apply (use a rag) and absorbs into the wood quickly and evenly. No streaking and no blotching on the final stain.

Worst product ever even following directions.
I’ve used pre-stain conditioners before but never have I had such bad reactions as with this product. I decided to use it on an oak table top to maximize my chance of an even stain coating. The product says it should definitely be used on soft and small grain woods BUT is suitable for ALL woods. I sanded, cleaned and prepped as directed. Wiped on coating and let it sit for maybe 7-8 minutes within the 5-15 minute set time. Then wiped off excess as directed. After another 15 minutes began to ...
Works for refinishing distressed wood
Product used on distressed wood prior to staining, it worked well and the stain absorbed evenly.
Good sand/sealer
Excellent product. Sealed the soft portions of a pine table top and made stain application more uniform?

Big time difference in stain application
Product makes a big difference on raw woods. Dependent upon the wood species, I like to go with two treatments for hard woods. Good adsorption rate(almost immediately). Does what it says it is going to do for even staining results. Recommended! I don’t stain raw wood without it.

Today's Minwax for Every Wood Finish - WOW!
I've been using Minwax stains, pre-stain conditioners, and top coat finishes since 1960's for antique furniture restoration and for my college kids' unfinished kit furniture. I am so appreciative that Lowe's carries the huge Minwax product line, including my favorite go-to's ...those practical 1/2 pt cans of stain, and the essential pre stain conditioners I call grain blockers (for uniformity of absorption). I was happy also to find in-store a supply of the current Minwax Color Guides with all...
Perfect prep for raw wood
I had a surface partially finished, partially raw after sanding and wanted to make sure it would finish even. Prestaining is a simple concept; just brush this in the raw area until it no longer absorbs and starts to pool instead (obviously on vertical surfaces, it will run so have a drop cloth or drip tray ready), leave 10-15 minutes then use a clean lint free rag to wipe away all the excess. This is the stuff you use before the oil-based stain or seal, in this case, I was using Poly Shades. The...
Lowes and Fedex sucks
It was supposed to be there on Aug1 and i got a message from Lowes on July 31st that delivery will be made on Aug1. I scheduled handyman to come in afternoon as this was a weekend. No delivery and NO notification on why/where is this stuck. Ofcourse, I had to pay my handyman for nothing.. Will not buy from Lowes again.
