I have installed Kwikset Smart-key deadbolts and door locks in four houses now over the last 20 years. They install easily and can be re-keyed in a few minutes. The instructions are 'minimal' in both size and clarity.: One sheet with small print and diagrams in multiple languages. My recent experience was a house with five entry doors. Four had older Kwikset locks that could not be re-keyed. The front door had a newer Kwikset smart-key deadbolt, so I re-keyed it and installed four new sets. T...

This set was good value and while my screen door is black, this works well enough as it's a dark bronze (I didn't see a black set in stock). The design is nice and installation was reasonable.

So easy to rekey anyone can manage it

Would Recommend

These locks are so simple to rekey, that I was able to do four locks easily in 15 minutes. Amazing! I like the handles because if my arms are fully, I can easily bump the lever and get the door to open. I wasn't able to figure out how to reverse the handle, though. If you have the same lever on two doors in one room, the levers won't look the same unless the doors happen to both swing from the same side.

Self Key function is unreliable

Would Not Recommend

I was able to rekey the handset to match my existing housekey but the deadbolt froze during the rekey operation. This has happened on other occasions as well. It seems to be a Kwikkey quality issue. Back to the store to replace the whole set.
