What Customers Are Saying
Customers are sharply divided on this chalk paint spray product. Nearly half report poor coverage requiring three to four coats, describing it as too thin and watery compared to alternatives. Many note the paint lifts or peels when wax is applied, indicating weak adhesion. However, some customers praise its smooth application, quick drying time, and attractive matte finish, particularly for small projects. A few mention it works well for distressed looks without sanding. Overall, reviewers express strong disappointment with coverage and durability, though a smaller group finds it acceptable for specific uses.

I bought this Krylon Chalk Paint for a chest of drawers. I thoroughly cleaned it and scuff sanded, then wiped down with a microfiber cloth to remove the dust. This is not my first rodeo. I expected the first coat to be streaky, so wasn't concerned with lack of coverage. But the second coat wasn't a lot better. Today, I applied a 3rd coat, using a foam cabinet / door roller, it STILL isn't covering. I waited an hour and put a 4th coat on the top and 1 side. The 4th coat is almost dry and it STILL...
Not great
Having never used chalk paint before, I believed that you only need one coat of this stuff. You'll need at least two to get decent coverage, but you may be able to get away with one if you use a primer (and primer is cheaper than chalk paint). You'll also need to finish it with a wax, so that's at least two products to purchase. The classic white is very bright white. If you've ever worked with gesso before, this is very much like working with gesso. You don't have to sand between coats, but if ...
Turned out great!
When we moved in the house, my first thought was "yak, these cabinets need to go, they are so ugly!". But, we don't have much of resources for now, so I decided to salvage what we have. First of all , PREPARATION. That is the key and many people believe the commercial saying "no prep needed, paint and go". Well, if you want to get a nice durable surface, you gotta spend time prepping it. So... I washed and de-greased all the cabinets, scrubbed every single bump of old paint drips. Sanded. Wipe...
The DIY from H-E double hockey sticks!
I wish I’d taken heed to the bad reviews, this paint was bad from the start. Thinner than other brands I’ve used (waverly, Hobby something rustoleum & my own diy chalk paint. I added 1/4 cup of calcium carbonate to thicken and waited 2 days giving ample time to dissolve. Coverage is poor. I had to oaint 3 ciats of a celery green over 2 fresh coats of white. I was shooting for minimal distressing but had to repaint over areas that quickly presented the oak I burried under 5 coats of paint! Even m...

Breathes new life into old pieces
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am quite pleased with the ease and finished products from using this Krylon Chalky Finish Paint. This is my first experience with this type of finish, and I had my apprehension about not having to use a primer or do any preliminary prep. Before embarking on a larger project, I experimented on a set of wood shelves that had been sitting around for awhile as I didn’t really like the finish on it. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the pain...

It's NOT 'chalk' paint - Poor Branding
Chalk Paint & Chalky Paint are not the same. This review isn't about the quality of your product, it is about its intended end user. When I purchased the Anvil Gray, I did read the label, "Chalky"; thought it was odd, but probably some copyright law uptake for Krylon's merchandising, NBD. Big Deal. Anyone who has painted with chalk paint knows it is not just a paint job, it's a paint process. Its application is unlike latex paints, drys very quickly, often requires two coats for dramatic colo...

Worst paint EVER!!!!!
I am an artist; additionally, I work in restoration and home redesign!!!! I paint ALOT!!!!!! I use chalk paint for most of my restorations for durability, and I typically purchase a different brand. I thought I would give Kryon a try. I purchased 2 cans in colors that compliment each other!!! A WASTE OF MONEY. It’s like painting with tinted water!!! Don’t tell me to mix it good, or shake it!!!! I opened the cam strait from the mixer at Lowe’s AND I still shook it!! Both cans were the same,AWFUL...

Absolutely Horrible Chalk Paint
DO NOT buy this paint! I bought a desk, sanded the whole thing, wiped down with the recommended cleaner, sealed and primed it - the whole nine yards. I used this paint a d for the first coat it went on fine. I waited a full 24 hours for it to cure, went back over for a second coat and IMMEDIATELY the paint began peeling. I have never had this problem using any other brand of paint and will be returning to Dixie Belle without any hesitation. I’m going to have to strip and re-prep my whole piece. ...

Terrible if using a brush, works with a sprayer
Would not buy this again. There's a reason why it's called "chalky finish." It's just a matte finish paint with a high price. Might as well buy regular interior paint in flat and save the money if you don't need to distress. This paint is very thin, and has terrible coverage. Does not distress like real chalk paint. Had used Valspar chalk brand paint before and it was decent, so I just went for it. I used a fancy chalk paint brush on a section of the piece first, and was so disappointed at how ...

New additions to my dining room with chalky brush on
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got the Chalky finish paint by Krylon to paint a few different smaller shelves for my dining area. I have had these shelves in my storage room for a few years and dont really like the shade of the paint that was on them. I got the Chalky finish paint and started painting two of the shelves. I have 4 more to paint if i have enough paint left. I only did one coat of paint on the shelves and so far they came out looking alot better than original...
