Damaged Hot Water Heater
Would Not RecommendOrdered two separate A.O. Smith Signature 500 40-gallon Short Hot Water Heaters. One had to wait a few weeks to get, had it shipped to Latham NY store and as soon as we looked at the box you could tell it was damaged by forklift. Ordered second heater from the Niskayuna NY store and had the same issue dented from forklift.

Quick and quiet!
Would RecommendOnly installed a week ago, but so far it’s working awesome. Straight forward to install, started up with no problems or drama, and has been quietly pumping out hot water since. The heater itself is pretty much silent except for the exhaust fan running. It is about the same noise level as the pre-draft motor on most furnaces. So it is very quiet for what it is. Bad Experience
Would Not RecommendWe ordered this hot water heater online from the Lowe’s website on 11/24/2025, and it was installed the next day on 11/25/2025. Since then, we have been trying to register it on the AO Smith website, but we cannot locate the serial number anywhere on the tank. There is no sticker showing the model number or serial number. Our other hot water tank, which is installed right next to it, does have a clear sticker with all the necessary information, so this issue is specific to the new unit. We are ...

Water heater lasts twenty years
Would RecommendThis is the third A.O. Smith in thirty years. I always buy the 50 gallon tank for my family they seem to last longer than the 40 gallon. With six people in our house I need all the help I can get. my last A.O. lasted me 20 years, I think because it was bigger. The new thermostat control is very easy to operate, even you wife can do it. So far I'm very happy with this one, very fast recovery time.
