QUIKRETE® Fast Setting Concrete Mix is a concrete, containing gravel. If the steps need an overlay that is ~2 inches or more thick, it may be used. QUIKRETE® Sand/Topping Mix (#1103) may be used for an overlay from ½ inch to 2 inches thick. The Sand/Topping Mix may be blended with QUIKRETE® Concrete Acrylic Fortifier No. 8610 replacing a portion of the water content for an increased bond, for an application <1 inch thick. For a thicker topping, for an increased bond, either the Fast Setting Concrete Mix (≥2 inch) or the Sand/Topping Mix (≥1 inch) may be applied after a painted on coat of QUIKRETE® Concrete Bonding Adhesive No. 9902. Do not use the Concrete Bonding Adhesive and the Acrylic Concrete Fortifier combined in the same application. Both the QUIKRETE® Fast Setting Concrete Mix and QUIKRETE® Sand/Topping Mix would need to be formed. For smaller repairs, QUIKRETE® Commercial Grade FastSet Repair Mortar (#1241) and QUIKRETE® Quick Setting Cement (#1240) may be used. These are products designed for making vertical and overhead repairs (therefore, good for step edges and corners). They should be mixed to a clay-like, sculptable consistency, and may be feather-edged. They are not intended for areas greater than 2 square ft. All of these products require being mixed with water before being applied. When making repairs, getting a good color match can be difficult - we always recommend trialing a small quantity of the repair material in a discrete area, and allowing it to cure for one week to determine whether the color and overall appearance are acceptable before using the material in less discrete areas. Please call the QUIKRETE® Technical Center directly at 1-800-282-5828 if you would like to discuss your project.
