What type of concrete do I need to set 4x4 patio post


Fast setting will work well. Just remember to dig deep enough, wide enough, and fill the hole completely to ground level for full strength. It may also be code in your area.

QuikCrete recommends their Fast-Setting Concrete Mix for setting posts. Their site has a handy calculator for figuring hole size and bags of mix needed. For a 4" post they recommend a 12" dia hole. 36" deep is a good depth for a patio support post = 5 bags of 50# fast-setting mix.
