Generally, stainless steel, as it's sometimes called incorrectly, is made from 2 common types. Magnetic Grade which is known as 400 Series, and Non-Magnetic, which is known as 300 Series. The Nickel content of 300 Series, not in the 400 Series, is what makes it Non-Maganetic. Most producers won't tell you this.

Was this Answer Helpful ?Broan's indoor range hoods are made from Appliance grade stainless steel type 430. 430 stainless has a lower nickel content and more iron, therefore a magnet will stick. Thank you.
