Does anyone know if you can use a foam brush instead of a cloth, to apply this, and still get a good smooth finish?


Problem is Minwax as well as other co. have changed their formulas over the years so they are no longer the tried and true formulas we used icon ago.

For icons, I pour Minwax on the icon and push it with a cloth folded into a pad. No bubbles, brush marks or hair from the brush. Thin gloves are fine as you will have very little contact with the sealer. Let it set for a month (possibly less is OK but I wait) before putting on another coat. After that dries, sand by hand with 600 sandpaper and apply final coat.

I would not recommend a foam brush. I used a good synthetic bristle brush & got a smooth finish.
