5 Tips for Outdoor Party Planning

Brought to you by Lowe's Creative Ideas

Make your outdoor party a hit by avoiding these five common outdoor party fouls.

Number One: Too Muggy

When the air’s hot and sticky, you’ll need to keep your guests cool. A misting system easily connects directly to your hose. Turn it on to keep your guests refreshed. Or, try an outdoor fan to provide a gentle breeze. What’s a party without ice-cold beverages? Keep drinks frosty in coolers. Place a table nearby for cups, glasses, and other party supplies.

Number Two: Too Much Sun

Sunny skies equal ideal party weather. But too much sun is not fun. You need shade. If you have trees, you’re all set. If you need more cover, a patio umbrella is a great way to shade sitting areas. Another great alternative is a shade sail.  They look cool, can be hung almost anywhere, and provide guests with plenty of cover.

Number Three: Too Buggy

Chase away uninvited insects and add mood lighting with citronella torches and candles.

Number Four: Too Disruptive

Nearby distractions shouldn’t be the entertainment for your party. Use outdoor speakers to set the mood and keep everyone entertained. For more serenity, try the relaxing sounds of a running water fountain. Another tip: install a privacy wall. A fence will help block sound, and a few decorative panels can hide things in the yard.

Number Five: Too Dark

Lighten up the party with a fire pit.  For a festive feel, hang string lights overhead to provide a soft, warm glow.  And to help your guests find their way, illuminate the path with landscape lighting.
