Vinyl Plank Flooring and Vinyl Floor Tile

Beautiful, Resilient Floors

If you want floors that are beautiful and resilient, consider vinyl flooring options. Vinyl plank flooring, peel-and-stick vinyl flooring and sheet vinyl flooring are cost-effective and low-maintenance alternatives to flooring made of other materials, such as wood and ceramic tile.

Vinyl Flooring by Style

One great advantage of vinyl flooring is that it can mimic the look of more expensive flooring types. Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) can replace ceramic, stone or porcelain tile and even comes in a groutable version. Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring can look like different wood types that are frequently used for hardwood flooring. Sheet vinyl tile rolls and linoleum flooring can mimic the look of wood or stone and is an excellent waterproof flooring option. It comes in pre-cut or cut-to-length sheets.

If you’re not quite sure what you want your vinyl flooring to look like, you can filter by style on Lowes.com to see different possibilities. You can find floors that would work well with a traditional look or styles that evoke a contemporary feel. You can also filter by texture to see which smooth, embossed or distressed tile options might best suit your design taste.

Installation Types

The type of vinyl flooring you choose might depend on the installation type you’re most comfortable with. Interlocking vinyl plank flooring, also known as floating flooring, doesn’t require glue or nails during installation. Vinyl floor tile and vinyl plank flooring both come in peel-and-stick varieties that are self-adhesive and don’t require any additional gluing. Many other types of vinyl flooring require glue installation. If you’re not comfortable doing the installation yourself, Lowe’s can help with professional independent installers.

Another important factor to consider is subflooring, the type of material that will be directly beneath your new flooring. Determine whether you’re installing your new floor over concrete, wood or some other subflooring type and make sure that the flooring you choose is appropriate for use over those materials. If you need guidance, speak with an expert at your local Lowe’s. The bottom layer of subflooring beneath your flooring is called underlayment. Whether or not your new vinyl floor can top a particular kind of underlayment depends on the flooring itself and your subfloor. Different types of underlayment can provide cushioning, reduce sound and create a moisture barrier to protect your new floor.

Finishing Touches for Your Vinyl Floors

Once your vinyl wood plank flooring or other vinyl flooring is installed, make sure you add matching vinyl moulding and trim to give your flooring a clean and polished look. Moulding — like quarter round or shoe moulding — can help to conceal gaps between your floorboards and the wall, as well as to protect your walls from being bumped and marked by shoes or furniture. T-moulding, or floor-transition moulding, bridges and conceals expansion gaps between flooring types of the same thickness.

Enjoy the benefits of sturdy vinyl plank flooring on your stairs, too. The different parts of each stair — the horizontal stair treads and nosing and the vertical stringers — also come in wood-look vinyl that will stand up to heavy traffic in your home. And just like vinyl flooring, vinyl stairs resist water damage better than traditional hardwood flooring does.

Why Should I Choose Vinyl?

If you want the best durable flooring that will look great in your home, then vinyl is a good choice. Waterproof vinyl flooring is ideal for wet and spill-prone spaces, like bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms and basements. Additionally, most of the bathroom vinyl flooring options are stain- and scratch-resistant. Whether you’re looking for peel-and-stick floor tiles, rolls of vinyl sheet flooring or luxury vinyl planks, you’re sure to find an easy-to-maintain option that will add style to your home.
