Bathtub Drain and Replacements
A bathtub drain empties the water from your tub down to your drain pipes. Most tubs also feature a protective overflow hole that's connected to the drain pipes higher up so you can't overfill your tub. When considering a bathtub drain replacement, you'll want to know what type of drain you've got.
Many common drain types operate by creating a manual seal, including foot lock or toe touch, roller ball, and lift-and-turn or lift-and-lock. Pop-up drains have a trip lever with an internal plunger that operates the open and closed positions. Rotary, cable drive and chain-and-stopper drains are operated by turning a handle or knob to open and close the drain.
If you're looking to get everything in one place, a bathtub drain kit includes additional items such as an overflow plate, strainer, bath shoe and adapters. Read our helpful guide — How to Repair a Bathtub Drain — for a walkthrough of the installation and repair of different types of bathtub drains.
