Bring Your Garden to Life With Plants, Bulbs and Seeds

Fewer things can enhance a home’s curb appeal more than a beautiful garden. Adding flowers and greenery can fill in bare areas and add color to your outdoor space. Lowe’s Garden Center can help you choose the right plants and trees for your region. Whether you have partial shade or full sun, you’ll find the right plants for your garden.

Perennial and Annual Plants

Perennials are a great start to any garden. Unlike annuals, these plants tend to bloom year after year. Roses, daylilies, hyacinth flowers and lavender are examples of perennials that’ll look and smell great.

Annuals are plants that complete their life cycle in one growing season. They can produce vibrant colors in a shorter time than perennials, making them a perfect choice for bedding plants and containers or filling in bare spots. Annuals also allow you to experiment to find the best combination for your flower garden.

For drier areas, try succulents, which are hardy plants that retain water in their thick green leaves. Aloe vera, hens and chicks, and cacti are examples of this type of plant. Succulents do well both in ground and in planters, and they’re also very low maintenance.

Bulb Plants Vs Seed Plants

The difference between a seed and a bulb lies in its maturity. Seeds are essentially embryos, whereas bulbs are mature plants. Bulbs have undergone the entire life cycle of a plant, while seeds are simply the last step in a plant’s reproductive cycle.

Vines, Small Trees and More

Trellises and lattice work are excellent foundations for flowering vines, as they’ll grow upward. Providing both color and screening, they cover bare walls or fences with blooms and greenery. Wisteria, Mandevilla, honeysuckle and climbing rose are popular vines that work well. Vines come as both annuals and perennials.

Small trees can be a final touch, providing scale and shade. Flowering dogwood trees, shady willow trees and tropical palm trees all come in various sizes and work well for front yards or backyard gardens. Evergreen trees such as Alberta spruce can also provide color and privacy year-round. As with plants, there are many options to accent any space.

You can also enjoy your greenery inside with indoor plants. Small air plants can fill an empty windowsill, and a peace lily looks at home on a shaded patio. Hanging baskets work well on back porches, without taking up floor space. Indoor plants also act as air purifiers, removing toxins and improving air quality. There are many types of plants that can thrive outdoors, whether you live in a dry climate, have a mostly shaded backyard or live somewhere with sandy soil. Before choosing outdoor plants, consider your geographic location and the amount of shade and sun your yard receives. Want to start with easy-to-maintain plants? Search “10 easy house plants” on the internet to compile a list of plants that anyone can grow. Some of the easiest options include plants like pothos, snake plants, dieffenbachia, aloe vera plant and spider plants.

Check out the wide variety of plants, flowers and supplies for your home or garden available at the Lowe’s Garden Center.
