Customize Your Chainsaw With Chainsaw Bars

A working chainsaw bar or blade is needed to allow a chainsaw to make straight, accurate cuts. If there are problems with how your chainsaw cuts, you might be able to replace the bar to continue cutting through thick tree trunks and branches.

For the typical chainsaw, the ideal bar size for cutting dead trees and limbs around your propertyis between 14 to 18 inches. There are also bars in longer and shorter sizes for specialty jobs. Shorter bars are suitable for mini and small chainsaws and can be used to chop up small logs or prune branches quickly. Longer bars make cutting wide trunks and logs easier.

The number on your chainsaw's chain links determines what kinds of bars it's compatible with. For example, Oregon chainsaw bars use a 3/8-inch chain pitch. A lower-numbered chain creates finer cuts and a higher-numbered chain creates coarser cuts. Learn more about how chainsaws work and important safety tips by reading our guide — Find the Best Chainsaw.
