Carpet installation can be a great do-it-yourself project if you've got the right tools to complete the job. Whether you're laying carpet with tack strips or carpeting around finished baseboards or built-in shelves, a carpet tucker makes many jobs much easier.
A carpet tucker or stair tool is a flat blade made of metal or plastic with a handle that allows you to gently tuck carpet around edges and over stairs without cutting or snagging the fibers. Tucking carpet tightly and securely prevents it from bunching up and becoming a tripping hazard — which is especially important on stairs.
Cut your new carpeting to fit your room with a carpet knife. This special type of utility knife has a square-ended blade that makes easy work of cutting carpet for installation around corners and in precise edges. For a step-by-step look at cutting carpet to fit corners, see our guide — How To Install Indoor-Outdoor Carpet.
